Prof. S Kotha, Department of Chemistry,  has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharya, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been conferred the Manthan Award 2009 - the South Asia award for best practices in ICT for Development of Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, at a function held in Delhi on December 19, 2009.(more on www.manthanaward.org and http://www.cfilt.iitb.ac.in/wordnet/webhwn)

 

 

Ms. Sunita Kedia, Research Scholar, Department of Physics. Her paper titled "Photoluminescence of ZnO inverse photonic crystal" fetched the Best Poster award, at the International conference on Advanced Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology (ICANN 2009) held at Guwahati during December 9-11, 2009. The paper was co-authored with Prof. R.Vijaya.

 

 

Prof. Srinivas Aluru, Department of Computer Science and Engineering,  has been elevated to the IEEE Fellow grade with effect from January 1, 2010.  His citation states his "contributions to computational biology"

 

Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, Department of Civil Engineering, has been selected for ISTE's "Maharashtra State National Award - 2009" for  his outstanding research work in Engineering and Technology. The award has  been instituted by the Government of Maharashtra and will be presented  during the Inaugural Function of the 39th Annual Convention of ISTE at  NITK Surathkal on December 18, 2009.  He has also  received Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award - 2009 for his outstanding services, achievements and contributions in the field of academics. This award was presented on the eve of 92nd Birth Anniversary of late Smt. Indira Gandhi on 18th November, 2009, at India International Centre, New Delhi. This award is instituted by All India National Unity Conference, New Delhi, and given to selected people from various fields for their outstanding services, achievements and contributions to promote National Unity, Integration, Brotherhood and Oneness.

 

Prof. Tarun Kant, Department of Civil Engineering, has been selected for the  IIT Roorkee-Khosla National Award for Lifetime Achievement in the  field of Engineering. Prof. Kant was invited to receive the award at  the annual convocation of the institute on Nov 14, 2009.

Prof.  Rajakishore Nath, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences,has received the  Best Conference Paper award for the paper entitled "Supervenience & Emergentism: A Study in Philosophy of Mind" at the International Journal of Arts & Sciences Conference which was held in Gotthenheim, Germany, in November 2009.

Santhosh Kumar Gowdhaman, second year M.Tech student, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT-Bombay won the third prize in Nebula'09.  This is an All - India level Analog design contest. Around 850 students from all over India participated in the contest. The contest had two rounds and 18 students were selected for the finals which was held at the company office, Cosmic Circuits Pvt Ltd, Bangalore,  on December 26, 2009

 

 

K.Krishna Mohan, Research Scholar, Reliability Engineering, has been selected for  IEEE Reliability Society Award for the year 2009.

 

  Professor Emeritus  S. M. Khopkar, Department of Chemistry, has been bestowed Life Time Achievement Award by the Indian Council of Chemists (ICC) at its 28th conference held in North Gujarat University Patan

Mr. K. Krishna Mohan, a research scholar in the Interdisciplinary Programme in Reliability Engineering, working under the guidance of Prof. A. K. Verma and Prof. A. Srividya, has been selected for the "2009 IEEE Reliability Society Scholarship Award". This entails a one-time $2,000.00 (USD) scholarship. The IEEE Reliability Society Scholarship co-ordinator, Dr. Robert Loomis, in his correspondence notes that "...this scholarship is a testimony to his outstanding scholastic achievements and his demonstrated interest in IEEE and reliability-related professional activities". This scholarship is awarded annually to five prominent students working in the field of reliability engineering all across the world.

Prof. Devang Khakhar, Director of IIT Bombay and Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering,  has  been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences,  India (NASI, Allahabad).

Prof. Ravindra Gudi of the Department of Chemical Engineering has been  selected for the prestigeous Herdillia Award for Excellence in Basic  Research, by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. The award  will be conferred in IIChE's annual meeting in December 2009.

Prof. Anurag Mehra of the Department of Chemical Engineering has been  elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Santosh Kumar Gupta of the Department of Chemical Engineering has been  elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.

Prof. R. Murugavel  of the Department of Chemistry has been awarded the Materials  Research Society of India (MRSI) Medal for 2010. The medal will be  presented at the MRSI Annual General Meeting at SP University in  Gujarat, during which Prof. Murugavel will also deliver the MRSI Medal  lecture. At present Prof. Murugavel is on sabbatical and occupies the  prestigeous DFG Mercator Chair at Bochum University, Germany.

 

 

Dr. Ganesamoorthy, a student of the Department of Chemistry who did  his doctoral work under Prof. M. S. Balakrishna, has been selected for the  first "2009 Eli Lilly Asia Outstanding Thesis Award" (Second Prize),  by the Discovery Chemistry Research and Technologies Division  at Eli Lilly & Company, Indianapolis, USA. He is presently a  postdoctoral fellow at the University of Calgary.

 

Prof.  V.S. Raja of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science  has been selected by NACE International  for  the NIGIS  Meritorious Contribution Award for the Year 2008-09 in recognition of his contributions in the area of Corrosion and Corrosion Prevention. The award is  sponsored by Corrtech International Pvt. Ltd. The award was  presented during a recent International Conference & Expo on Corrosion, on 30 September 2009.

 

Prof. Raja has also been elected as a Member of NACE International  Research Committee.

 

Prof. Subimal Ghosh of the Department of Civil Engineering has been selected for the "Young Scientist Award 2009-10" from Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).  The award will be given at the 97th Indian Science Congress to be held in Trivandrum during 3-7 January 2010.
