IIT Bombay Alumni Association to host Golden Jubilee Culmination Event in Bangalore, March 14th, 2009

Fifty years ago, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone of IIT Bombay. To celebrate its golden jubilee year, over the last 18 months IIT Bombay has been organizing a series of Outreach programmes and alumni events (in India and overseas) that have showcased IIT Bombay's achievements over the last 50 years and its plans for the next 50 years.

To conclude the ongoing Golden Jubilee Celebrations of its alma mater, the Alumni Association of the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IITB) will be hosting an alumni event "IITB: Kal, Aaj aur Kal" on March 14th, 2009 at the Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bangalore.

Over 1000 IITB alumni and their families are expected to attend this event. This culminating program will provide a platform for the IITB faculty to present the institute's vision for the next 50 years; it would also feature deliberations on how the alumni can contribute towards this vision. Promoting ways for closer interactions between the alumni, the institute and faculty towards enhancing the prestigious IIT Bombay brand and image, will also be explored.

Mr.Sanjay Jain, President, IITB Alumni Association, Bangalore Chapter, said, "We have many distinguished alumni, who have made significant contributions to the institute, our country, and the world at large. This event is a platform for the younger alumni to interact with and draw knowledge from the very persons they wish to emulate." The event will feature prominent alumni presentations on diverse topics from Science & Technology (Chandrayaan and Pharma), Films, Entrepreneurship, Social Development and Governance.

The event will be co-chaired by Shri Victor Menezes, Senior Advisor with New Silk Route Partners LLC and former Senior Vice Chairman of Citigroup (Class of 1970); Nandan Nilekani, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Infosys Technologies Ltd. (Class of 1978), and Prof R.K. Shevgaonkar, Deputy Director - Finance and External Affairs, IIT Bombay (PhD Class of 1985). Surmising the spirit of the forthcoming event, Nandan Nilekani said "Our individual and collective experiences at IIT Bombay - in the classrooms and outside - shaped each of us into what we are today. United by our love and affection for the institute, we will come together, celebrate the achievements of the last 50 years, and pledge our continued support for the future"
