Admission to Postgraduate Programmes
Applications are invited for admission to the following Postgraduate Programmes for the Academic Year 2005-06 starting from July 2005
 

M.Tech.

Departments: Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer Sc. & Engg., Earth Sc. (Geoexploration), Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical Engg. & Materials Science

Interdisciplinary Groups: Corrosion Sc. & Engg., Energy Systems Engg., Industrial Engg. & Operations Research, Reliability Engg., Systems & Control Engg.

Centre: Environmental Science & Engineering


Schools: Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology, School of Biosciences & Bioengineering (Biomedical Engineering)
  Eligibility

B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. (Engg.)/M.Sc./MCA/MBBS/M.Pharm. or equivalent with valid GATE score (or AIIMS / MCI / GIPMER /PGI-Chandigarh/ AFMC-Pune– PG entrance test for Biomedical Engineering/MBBS with MD/MS)

IIT B.Tech. with CPI/CGPA of 8.00/10.00 and above are exempted from requirement of GATE.

Sponsored candidates without valid GATE score should have minimum 2 years of relevant work experience and first class in qualifying examination.

Candidates applying for M.Tech. in Information Technology (IT) without valid GATE score in discipline of study (or in CS) should have valid score in D-Level (or higher) examination conducted by NCST and a minimum of 2 year relevant work experience in the area of Information Technology.

Ph.D.

In all Departments, Centre, Interdisciplinary groups mentioned under M.Tech. Programme, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Humanities & Social Sciences (Economics, English, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Sanskrit) and School of Biosciences & Bioengineering (Biotechnology, Biomedical Engg., Chemical Biology and Biochemical Engg.), Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology, Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management.
  Eligibility

a) M.E./M.Tech./M.Phil./MMS/M.Sc. (Engg.)

or


b) B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc./MCA with first class, M.A./ M.Com. with 55% marks and valid GATE score OR CSIR/UGC/NBHM fellowship or minimum 2 year relevant work experience for candidates without any national level test. However, for Institute Teaching /Research Assistantship, valid GATE score/ CSIR/UGC/NBHM fellowship is must.

In addition to the above, candidates should also satisfy the eligibility criteria specified by the individual department as mentioned in the Ph.D. brochure.

PGDIIT
(Information Technology)
  Eligibility
Same as for M.Tech. Programme in Information Technology.

M.Des.   Eligibility
     
Industrial/Product Design:   A bachelor degree in engineering or equivalent in any branch/bachelor degree in architecture or equivalent/ Professional Diploma from NID
Visual Communication:
  Same as above or GD Art/BFA (minimum 4 years professional course in Applied Art/Fine Art)

All applicants must have passed CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design)

M.Phil.

(Planning & Development)
  Eligiblity

Master Degree in Arts, Commerce or equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent from the recognized university.

B.Tech./M.Sc. degree or equivalent with adequate background in Social Sciences with a minimum 60% marks or equivalent.

# Reservation for SC/ST/PD (person with disabilities) candidates as per Government of India rules.
# Wherever there is specific requirement of percentage of marks in qualifying examination, it is relaxed by 5% for SC/ST applicants.
# Candidates appearing in the final year of qualifying degree examination are eligible to apply.
# Details regarding financial support are available on website.
# A separate application form should be used for each programme.
 
Candidates applying for M.Tech. Programme should submit only one form with provision of applying for maximum three Departments / Interdisciplinary groups / Centre / School (irrespective of specializations) in order of preference.
 
Candidates applying for Ph.D. Programme can give preference for three Department/Interdisciplinary groups/Centre/School in one application form. For further choices, if any, additional forms may be used. Application forms for admissions to Ph.D. Programme can be obtained & submitted throughout the year.
 
The brochure and application forms for all above programmes are available on website- www.iitb.ac.in/admissions . Candidates can download and submit the duly filled in application form along with application fee of Rs. 300/- for GN/PD (Rs. 150/- for SC/ST) by Demand Draft drawn in favour of ‘ Registrar, IIT Bombay ' payable at SBI/Canara, IIT Powai branch. Forms without Demand Draft will not be considered.
 
The brochure and application forms for all above programmes may also be obtained (by post or in person) from the Deputy Registrar (Academic), IIT Bombay, Powai, Mumbai – 400 076 on payment of Rs. 300/- for GN/PD (Rs. 150/- for SC/ST) through Demand Draft payable to ‘ Registrar, IIT Bombay '. In case of request by post, please enclose a self-addressed strong cloth-lined envelope of size 27cms X 12cms duly affixed postage stamps of Rs. 25/-.
 
Application for M.Tech. Programme can be submitted on-line; however, application fees alongwith duly signed printout of the application form should be sent within a week's time. On-line application form will not be considered, if Demand Draft for application fee is not received.
