No.Acad/UG Rules/2004
Date: 13th August 2004

NOTE

The Senate in its 167th meeting held on 3rd March 2004 approved the Report of Special Committee to Review the Undergraduate Rules. Accordingly, the existing rules have been amended and printed in the form of a booklet. These rules are applicable to the students admitted in July 2004 and onwards batches.

It has been decided in consultation with the Convener, UGAPEC, that the amended rules be made applicable to the students admitted in July 2003, from Autumn Semester 2004-05. However, the cases of students having more than four backlogs from this batch (2003) are considered for registration applying old rules and they will be instructed not to accumulate more than 4 backlogs at the end of Spring semester 2004-2005, so that they will be on par with the batch joined in July 2004.

In the old rules students having Ist year backlog are not permitted to register for the III year courses and similarly students having II year backlogs are not permitted to register for IV year courses. However, this restriction may be waived by UGAPEC based on a strong recommendation by the faculty adviser after providing for a plan for clearing the backlogs in future semesters.

Attention to 2nd year UG students

The Senate has approved the revised Rules & Regulations for the Undergraduate Programmes and made applicable to the students who joined B.Tech., Dual Degree and M.Sc. Programme during the Autumn Semester 2004-05.

The copies of the amended Rules & Regulations Booklet have already been disbursed to the students joined in 2004-05 and all concerned faculty members.

It has been decided now to apply the amended rules for the students admitted during the Academic Year 2003-04 also. Such cases of students from 2003 batch having more than four backlogs are considered for registration applying old rules. However, they should not have accumulated more than four backlogs at the end of Spring Semester 2004-05. Thus, they will be on par with the batch joined in July 2004 and governed under the amended Rules & Regulations thereafter.

In view of the above, all 2003-batch UG students (2 nd year of B.Tech., Dual Degree and M.Sc. Programmes) are requested to collect the Rules & Regulations Booklet (by showing their Identity cards) from the Academic Office counter from Monday, the 27 th September to Thursday, the 30 th September 2004 during office hours.
