Dr. Marlene Kanga She graduated in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, completed a Master’s degree at Imperial College London and a PhD at Macquarie University.
Dr. Kanga was National President of the Institution of Engineers Australia in 2013 and is President-elect of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO). WFEO is the peak body for engineering institutions internationally representing some 90 national engineering institutions and 10 regional and international engineering institutions, with approximately 20 million engineers. She will be the first Indian-born president of WFEO when she takes up her position in 2017.
Dr. Kanga is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK), a rare honour. She is also a Fellow of the
engineering institutions of New Zealand and India, , the Academy of Technology Science and Engineering (Australia) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Marlene is a board member of Innovation Australia and Sydney Water Corporation and Chair of the Department of Industry, Science and Innovation R&D Incentives Committee. She is a director of iOmniscient Pty. Ltd. which has developed patented technology for automated video analysis. Marlene is also a board member of the International Network for Women Engineers and Scientists. She is a board member of Asialink.
She has been recognised as a Distinguished Alumna by IIT Bombay and was the Federation of Engineering Institutions in the Asia Pacific 2014 Engineer of the Year for her contributions to engineering in the Asia Pacific region. She was listed among the Top 100 Women of Influence in Australia in 2013 and the Top 100 Engineers in Australia in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
She became a Member of the Order of Australia in June 2014 in the Queen’s birthday Honours List for her leadership of the engineering profession and as a role model.
