A flurry of activities kept the entire campus busy during the month of March. The Institute celebrated its 59th Foundation Day, on 10th March, 2018. On the occasion, the Chief Guest for the function, Honourable Governor of Maharashtra Shri CH. Vidyasagar Rao unveiled the plaque for new Guest House Padmavihar in the presence of the Guests of Honour Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Ex-Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay. The Institute celebrated it’s 59th anniversary by honouring its select alumni for their achievements in diverse fields ranging from academics, research and entrepreneurship. The 'Prof. S.C. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay organised an Institute Colloquium on Thursday, March 22, 2018 on Space Astronomy in India - Great Collaborative Opportunities for Scientists and Technologists by Prof. Ajit Kembhavi. Professor Ajit Kembhavi is Emeritus Professor and Raja Ramanna Fellow at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune. He was Director there until August 2015. He did his PhD from TIFR Mumbai and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge.Another Institute Lecture was delivered by Prof. Peter Voorhees, Frank C Engelhart, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA on Solidification in 4D: from Dendrites to Eutectics. The lecture revolved around the ability to observe and quantify the solidification process in metals on sub-second time scales and micron spatial scales in three dimensions which provide fundamentally new insights into this complex phase transformation

Kaladarshan, the annual fine arts and photography exhibition of IIT Bombay took place from 17th and 18th March, 2018. This year's exhibition was themed “An Underwater Odyssey.” This edition of Kaladarshan was a tribute to Ocean as a Creator and Sustainer of Life. This imperceptible but discernible bond between water and life is surely an artist's thought!

A number of conferences, meetings and events were held on campus, while a waterless Holi was celebrated this year in view of the drought-like situation in Maharashtra.IIT Bombay awoke to a spectacle of hues, music and mirth on March 10, 2017. The streets came alive with the festive spirit of over 300 participants, who had turned up for the third edition of the Color Run. The students were kept busy during the latter part of the month with preparations for PAF (Performing Arts Festival) that had the campus riveted with excitement and intense activity.

The Institute continues to attract outstanding talent as new faculty members. Several have joined IIT Bombay in the past. We are pleased to bring a short introduction of these new faculty members.

The generous contributions received from our alumni, corporate entities, and other friends of the Institute helps in making an important difference in our endeavour to pursue global excellence. The contributions towards Institute Development, Infrastructure Development, Young Faculty Awards, Chair Professorships, Hostel Development, Student Development, etc. are examples of utilization of these funds for the betterment of the Institute. We invite you to contribute to the Institute’s betterment to the best of your ability.
