          The"Run For India"


The "Run for India" relay began at 4am from the Gateway of India to IIT Powai, via Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, Haji Ali, Sidhhivinayak Temple, Linking Road, Shoppers Stop Andheri Kurla Road, L&T and back to IIT. A group of 10 Indians ran together holding "The Tiranga" in their hands. A bus and a group of enthusiasts accompanied the runners.


In the meantime, a Hostel Flag Hoist Ceremony was held and the Tiranga was hoisted at all hostels followed by the hostelites singing the national anthem.



The Run culminated at the Gymkhana Grounds at 9 am where the members of "Run for India" were welcomed, after which the Director Prof. Ashok Misra unfurled the largest ever Indian Flag (21 feet in length) that was hoisted on Powai Hill, visible from the entire campus. A tricolour face-painting competition was held and patriotic zealots painted in the colours of India.

Tricolour kites flooded the skies in the evening. Faculty, staff and students participated in a 'Tug of War'. A Grand IIT Group Run, with faculty, students, staff and campus school children took place with flags, shouting patriotic slogans from the Baddy Court - Gate behind H-8 - Powai lake gate and the final leg back to Baddy Court.



          Sankirtan Peace March


Devi Temple Committee had organized the Sankirtan Peace March, led by Mrs. Rashmi Misra, Chairperson, Devi Temple Committee on the occasion of the Republic Day Celebrations on January 26, 2002 from 6.30 a.m. - 8.30 a.m.

The Peace March route was from Hostel 6, Hostel 4, Hostel 1, QIP quarters, Vihar House, TCS, Y point gate, RK gate, Ladies hostel and the final leg to the Devi temple. The walk was received with a lot of enthusiasm from the faculty, students and staff members of the campus. Prasadam was served and the group broke up.
