IITB student success at ASME - Team on its way to Chicago.

A team of four IITB undergraduate students have won the zonal level ASME competition and are proceeding to Chicago to participate in the world finals on Nov. 5, 2006. The contests calls for the design of a machine to cast a lure (bait) using a "fishing pole" and hit a "fish" placed randomly on a carpeted floor and retract the lure for the next throw. Each team has to cast the lure five times. The score is based on the accuracy of landing and the ability to reel in a 1500 gm "fish" (yet another sand bag) after the fifth throw. The machine is to be operated remotely - and there are restrictions on its size, power and number of motors etc.

The four students are Ms. Rutika (EE) , Ms. Apeksha (Met. Mat Sc.), Rishabh (ME) and Anand (ME) who are presently in their II year having participated in the zonal level while in their I year! Additionally this is the first time that (a) students of I year have won the zonals, and (b) girl students are part of the team. IITB has won the ASME zonal level competition several times and all past winners have been very successful in their careers - many moved to top notch universities or industries.

The team is on its way to Chicago on 3 Nov. Prof. C. Amarnath is accompanying the team as the faculty mentor.
