Pre-requisite, if any
The laboratory course will involve preparing flow charts of processes, identifying steps that could limit the productivity, examining material flow for specified production capacity, preparing layout design of a plant for the processes, preparing a comprehensive list of equipments and accessories, designing or calculating equipment specifications for the production rate, specifying materials that must be used for the equipments and accessories and presenting the total results in the form of a project report. The above aspects would be applied to the following processes representative of metallurgical/materials process industry: Thin film processing, Silicon single crystal growth, Metal powder production through atomization, Reactor for nanopowders production, Ceramic injection molding, Mini steel plant, Continuous casting of steel and rolling mill, Die casting of metal alloys.
