| IIT Bombay celebrates its 51st Teacher’s Day |

| The 51st Teacher’s Day celebrations of IIT Bombay were held on Saturday, September 5th 2009. The chief guest, Prof. P. Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore presented awards for 'Excellence in Teaching’, IRCC Research & Industrial consultancy awards for the year 2007' as well as Dr. P. K. Patwardhan Technology Development Award' to select faculty members. |
Prof. P. Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore stated, “Education is the most critical investment in our future and the most effective strategy which will enable us to survive and to thrive in a changing world. It is the most precious gift we can pass on to the coming generation, enabling them to take the country towards prosperity.” Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Devang Khakhard said "Teachers are the core of IIT Bombay. They create the ambiance of excellence and set the standards of learning, to help students become outstanding graduates and important contributors to society.” He also congratulated all the awardees and expressed his gratitude towards IIT Bombay Heritage Fund and the late Dr. P. K. Patwardhan for funding these awards. |
The function began with an Indian classical Bharatnatyam dance performance arranged by the students of IIT Bombay to convey their gratitude towards their teachers. Students introduced their professors and presented their perceptions of what made them notable teachers. The recipients of the Awards for Excellence in Teaching 2008 were: Prof. V. M. Gadre, Department of Electrical Engineering Prof. M. K. Srinivasan, Department of Mathematics Prof. V. Sethi, Centre for Environmental Science & Engineering Prof. J. M.
