International Recognition for IITB Faculty

Prof Anand Patwardhan of the Shailesh J Mehta School of Management has been invited by Elsevier to serve as the Editor-in-Chief, together with Prof Rik Leemans of Wageningen University, for a new Current Opinion journal that is being launched, i.e., Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability. The journal aims to address the scientific, economic, social, technological and institutional aspects related to the challenge of environmental sustainability by focussing on integration across academic disciplines and insights with implications for societal practices and processes.

Prof Patwardhan also serves as the co-chair of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Global Carbon Project GCP (http://www.globalcarbonproject.org), which is one of the joint projects of the global change science programmes sponsored by ICSU. The GCP seeks to improve our understanding of the carbon cycle including its natural and human dimensions and has international project offices in CSIRO, Canberra, NIES, Japan and Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing.

Prof Deepankar Choudhury of the Department of Civil Engineering has been inducted as an Editorial Board Member of ISSMGE Bulletin for a period of 4 years, on the recommendation of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), London, U.K. Incidentally, the June 2009 issue of the Bulletin, for which Prof Choudhury was the Chief Editor, has an interview with Prof R. K. Katti, one of our senior-most Geotechnical faculty, in which Prof Katti reminisces about the early days of the Civil Engineering department at IIT Bombay.
