Recent Recognition for IIT Bombay Faculty

  1. Prof A.K. Singh, Department of Chemistry, has received the “ISCB Award for Excellence 2009 in the Area of Chemical Sciences” for his outstanding contributions. The award, instituted by the Indian Society of Chemists & Biologists (ISCB) was given to him at a function held on February 27, 2009 at the Delhi University, during 13th ISCB International Conference on Interplay of Chemical and Biological Sciences: Impact on Health & Environment’. At the Award function, Prof. Singh also delivered a lecture on the topic “Linear Polyene-Based Molecular and Biomolecular Photoactives”.

  1. Prof S.K. Maiti of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been elected a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), dated December 2008. The citation from ASME reads as follows:

   "Prof. Maiti is known for his research contributions in many areas of solid mechanics including topics such as fracture of elastic and elastic-plastic materials, composites and cellular materials, development of novel finite and boundary elements to study interacting and kinked cracks, manufacturing process modeling, vibration modeling of components with cracks, and health monitoring of structural components, his highly valuable contributions to education during his entire academic career and his active participation in professional societies."

  1. Prof Deepankar Choudhury of prestigious Bilateral Exchange Fellowship Programme 2009-2010 of Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi, India to carry out the research work for three months in the area of "Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering" at Department of Ocean and Civil Engineering, Kagoshima University, Japan.

  1. Prof Milind Atrey of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been elected a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), UK. FIMechE is "the highest elected grade of membership within the IMechE (and) recognises exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession".

  1. Prof. Sudhakar received the Systems Society of India's Raj Kumar Varshney Award for lifetime contribution to Systems Science at the National Systems Conference at IIT Roorkee, on the 17th of December 2008.

The Raj Kumar Varshney Award in Systems Theory has been established by Systems Society of India in conjunction with the Varshney family for exceptional contributions to systems science, application, and technology. The award has been conferred on Prof. Sudhakar for his scholarship, leadership, and outreach in the area of systems science, and in particular to Aerospace Systems Design and Engineering.

The award carries a Gold Medal and citation for notable and outstanding contribution.
