IIT Incubated Company ready  for Mass Production

 

“Wilcom Technologies Pvt. Ltd.” which was started as an incubated company at IIT Bombay Business Incubator through Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay is ready for mass production with several semi-automatic assembly lines. The company organized an inaugural  function  on 1st November, 2006 at IIT Bombay to mark the setting up of its Manufacturing unit at Sinnar MIDC(200 Km from Mumbai). Prof. Ashok Misra, Director, IIT Bombay was the Chief Guest. Company’s product catalog was released by the chief guest in the presence of Shri Sushil Jiwarajka, MD, Salora Group and Chairman, FICCI. The Company was promoted by Prof. Girish Kumar, a faculty member in Electrical Engineering Department.

 

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Misra said the objective of creating SINE i.e. culmination of research in to product development and wealth generation, was being fulfilled, with successes such as Wilcom Technologies.  Prof. Amarnath, Professor In-charge, SINE congratulating Prof. Girish Kumar, said he was an example of the academic adapting to business ways.  He also mentioned the change in SINE  entrepreneurial focus from IT technologies to harder engineering technologies and welcomed the trend.  Prof. Ramamritham, Dean R&D, said the IIT Eco system had the blend to make for success stories such as Wilcom Technologies.

 

 

The 100+ products developed by the company were on display during the function. Prof. Girish Kumar gave a presentation explaining details of various products.

Wilcom Technologies Pvt. Ltd., has already developed more than 100 products (antennas, power dividers, couplers, filters, amplifiers, repeaters, mobile phone jammers, mobile phone detectors, signal enhancers, etc.) and samples of these products have been approved by various telecom companies

 

The company’s strength is in its design capability, customized design, and most of its product prices are lowest in the whole world. The Company is ready with the design of 3G products and also products at 5.8 GHz. Very soon, it will be launching wide range of RFID products. Wilcom has formed a strategic partnership with Salora group (group of nine companies worth $290 Million) and it is setting-up its manufacturing unit (with 5 acres of land and 30,000 sq. ft. of built-up area, which can be expanded to 1.6 lakh sq. ft.) at Sinnar. 

 

The demand for wireless communications systems and components (antennas, power dividers, couplers, filters, amplifiers, repeaters, mobile phone jammers, RFID, etc.) is exponentially increasing with the advent of commercial applications. The number of mobile phone users in the world has been growing by leaps and bounds. In India, more than 3 crores mobile phone users are being added ever year, which implies huge increase in the requirement for the wireless components. The commercial, defense and space market for the wireless communication products in India is more than US $2 Billion.
