Wadhwani Research Centre for Bioengineering (WRCB) is an inter-departmental virtual centre of IIT Bombay. WRCB’s main focus has been on technology translation in the broad domain of healthcare delivery, with emphasis on technology innovation. Key areas of the centre include portable and affordable diagnostics, bio-manufacturing, drug delivery technologies and biomedical devices. Over 25 faculty members from the various science and engineering departments of the institute participate in the centre and undertake translational projects.

The institute has forged alliances with the key players in the healthcare delivery chain including industry (both, large corporates and start-ups), doctors, hospitals and medical research institutes. The centre has developed a unique Corporate Affiliate Program, where our academics brainstorm with counterparts from the industry on a regular basis in an endeavour to jointly develop indigenous technologies.

With these initiatives, the institute aims to develop a vibrant ecosystem to develop affordable and high quality healthcare solutions for the nation. The centre has received a generous philanthropic donation from the Wadhwani Foundation and an ‘in principle’ approval for an infrastructure grant from the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
