The corrosion science and engineering programme at IIT Bombay (1982) is the unique academic programme in India, specializing in corrosion and its control. Corrosion control is involved at every stage in the life of a process plant in any industry. Corrosion is a factor in the selection, design, storage and transportation of materials, construction, commissioning protective coatings and chemical treatment. |
|
It is an interdisciplinary programme and its major activities are research and teaching in corrosion and its control. The programme is essentially a post-graduate programme that takes student from various disciplines and gives a value addition of corrosion (knowledge) to them. The teaching in this programme consists primarily of one and half year of M. Tech course in corrosion science and engineering and PhD programme. The teaching staff consists of faculty from corrosion science and engineering, metallurgical engineering & materials science, chemical engineering and chemistry. In addition to teaching the faculty interacts with various industries in the form of sponsored projects, consultancy projects and training courses for industries. |
