The DSSE team comprises Institute faculty, adjunct faculty, officers and mentors. The post-graduate committee includes inter-disciplinary faculty members who review and approve various activities of the School.

Institute Faculty

Institute faculty from different departments are associated with DSSE courses, programs, administration and outreach activities.

Anuradha Narasimhan


Prof Anu Narasimhan is a Professor-of-Practice at IIT Bombay. She teaches the popular foundational course Introduction to Entrepreneurship and leads the pre-incubation and mentoring programs IDEAS and Women in Entrepreneurship. She is a Strategy & Marketing professional with 24 years of experience in India creating and nurturing brands in diverse categories like CPG, lifestyle and telecom. She has worked with Titan Industries part of the Tata group, Hutchison Telecom, Unilever and was VP - Marketing with Britannia. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from Singapore Management University and serves on corporate / advisory boards. She counts as her notable contributions mentoring women leaders, entrepreneurs, and brand custodians. She is an engineer from IIT Bombay and did her Post Graduation in Business from IIM Bangalore.

Bhallamudi Ravi


Prof. B. Ravi is an Institute Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay. He currently heads the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship as well as BETIC (Biomedical Engineering & Technology Innovation Centre). He is well-known for AutoCAST, E-Foundry, SMART Foundry and OrthoCAD projects that led to products and impact. The BETIC team developed 50 novel medical devices, incubated 16 startup companies, licensed 5 products to industry and won many awards. As a member of advisory councils of several institutes and expert committees of government agencies, Prof. Ravi also contributes to various policies and practices related to translational research and collaborative innovation.

Devdip Purkayastha


Devdip Purkayastha is a full time Professor-of-Practice at IIT Bombay, DSSE. He is closely involved with the start-up ecosystem, both in technology and social sectors. He teaches technology entrepreneurship courses, mentors start-up teams and advises investors. He has served as President of Enactus India. Enactus is a non-profit organization that supports students in social impact projects across 35 countries. Previously, he has had three decades of corporate experience in India and abroad, at leading global corporations such as P&G & DHL. He has been recognised in various forums, including as 'CEO of the Year'. He studied at IIT Kharagpur & IIM Calcutta, and later participated in executive programs at Wharton & INSEAD.

Kums P. Kumaresan

Prof. P. Kumaresan specializes in product design at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. He is in-charge of the Proof-of-Concept Lab for basic and advanced level POC fabrication. He teaches elements of design, product forms, spaces & structures and is involved with research activities of the Bamboo Studio. He has been active in a variety of areas ranging from craft to ICT products. He also handles design and branding related work of DSSE. He has Bachelors in Architecture from Anna University, Chennai and Masters in Design from IDC, IIT Bombay. He worked as a product designer in different companies and as product design researcher at the School of Information Technology, IITB.

Rohan Chinchwadkar


Rohan Chinchwadkar teaches Finance at the School of Management, IIT Bombay. He holds a B.Tech. (Electronics) from VJTI Mumbai and PhD (Finance) from IIM Calcutta. He was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. His focus is on the practice of entrepreneurial finance and entrepreneurship (venture capital, private equity, angel investing, start-up fundraising, start-up incubation). His research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at prestigious international conferences. He regularly writes opinion pieces for Economic Times, Mint, Hindu Business Line, Financial Express and Bloomberg Quint.

Adjunct faculty are experienced industry professionals who enrich the entrepreneurship courses and mentoring programs using real-life examples and case studies.

Anand T. Kusre

Prof. Anand Kusre was Professor of innovation and entrepreneurship in Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management at IIT Bombay, then founding Professor-in-Charge of DSCE (2014-2019), and now continues the association with DSSE as adjunct professor. He has over 30 years’ experience in commercial and development banking. He was involved in formulating and implementing national and international programs aimed at development and commercialization of new technologies. He has been associated with more than 250 companies and institutions as well as a large number of first-generation entrepreneurs. He is member of governing board of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India and Member of high-powered committee, New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative.

Nishant Tikekar


Dr. Nishant Tikekar is Adjunct Associate Professor-of-Practice at DSSE, IIT Bombay. Dr. Tikekar brings a good mix of academic as well as corporate experience. Over the course of his career, he has published and reviewed articles in peer-reviewed journals, launched a spinal implant for a startup company, worked in the corporate sector, and managed an Incubation Centre. Bulk of his work experience has been in the USA and India. He is an expert in lean manufacturing and is a Six Sigma Green Belt certified professional. He has also been a member of several professional societies.

Rajen Jaswa


Raj Jaswa is an accomplished technology entrepreneur. He became the CEO of Dyyno in 2009. During 2003-2008, he volunteered full-time for TiE Silicon Valley, first serving as Director and then as President; he continues to serve on its Global Board of Trustees. Raj was also co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Selectica (1996 to 2002), which went public in 2000 and was includes in the Forbes 500 and other prominent lists. Previously, Raj co-founded Opti in 1988, where he served first as Executive VP of Sales and Marketing and then as President until 1996. Raj has a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay, a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and an MBA from Stetson University.

Rajkumar Hirwani


Dr. Raj Hirwani has 40+ years of experience in Research, Technology and IP Management. He was Head of IP Directorate in CSIR and Director of CSIR’s Unit for R&D of Information Products. He was a member of World Bank Consultancy Team for Strengthening of R &D Institutions in China and Indonesia as well as on the panel of UNCTAD. He has won many national awards and honours. He was President of Licensing Executive Society India and is a member of several CSIR and government committees. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Technology from UDCT and Ph.D in Technology Management from IIT Bombay. He was a Fulbright Scholar and was recipient of Hubert Humphrey Fellowship in Technology Policy and Management.

Salil Donde


Prof. Salil has wide and deep experience in fintech (data, analytics, blockchain, software), financial services and insurance. He is a board member or advisor to several companies including Invatron, FocusVision, Ventiv, Tailwind, EQT and Lucedius. He was earlier CEO of AphaPoint Corp, Executive VP, Global Information Services of Nasdaq, and CEO of Marshall & Swift/Boeckh, USA. He is a strategic thinker with operational expertise and a track record of consistently increasing shareholder value. He has proven capabilities in private equity sponsored companies and public enterprises. He has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay, Masters from Clemson University and MBA from Columbia University Business School.

Umakant Jayaram

Umakant Jayaram is an adjunct professor at the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship. He is currently serving as Director Public Interest at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). He is an IIT Bombay alumnus and a Certified Chartered Financial Analyst. He was part of the first batch of the dedicated Advanced Capital Markets Program in Wall Street conducted by Shearson Lehman Hutton in 1991, in his stint at the American Express Bank. He has over 30-year experience in global capital markets, corporate finance, analytics, data sciences and strategy. In the past he has set up and managed global centers of excellence for global banks and managed large scale global risk and trading books.  

Vinay Dabholkar


Prof. Vinay specializes in systematic innovation, design thinking and mindfulness. He is the President of Catalign Innovation Consulting and has served over 50 organizations. He is also visiting faculty at IIT Bombay and IIM Bangalore, and has taught at IIM Indore, IIM Visakhapatnam and TISS Mumbai. He facilitated more than 100 workshops in corporate, government and social sectors, and gave invited talks at CII India Innovation Summit, Innovation Educators’ Conference, CIO Leadership Forum and other events. He had worked in IT industry (Motorola Austin and Sasken Bangalore) for over a decade before starting his consulting career. His rich experience is encapsulated in the award-winning book ‘8 steps to innovation: Going from Juggad to Excellence’. He has a B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay and PhD in Computer Science from SUNY Buffalo.


DSSE officers support the faculty in courses and mentoring programs, as well as in administration and outreach activities.

Alka Chavan


Alka Chavan is assistant project manager at the POC Lab of DSSE, where student teams develop proof-of-concept and prototypes based on their startup ideas. She is responsible for monitoring the micro-grants provided to these students, as well as purchase and documentation of equipment and consumables for Lab. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management after graduating in Commerce from Mumbai University. She worked in the accounts team of the Securities and Exchange Board of India for one year before joining IITB in 2014.

Dr. Aparna Rao


Dr. Aparna Rao coordinates the entrepreneurship courses offered by DSSE to IITB students, and hand-holds early student startups. She holds a doctorate in management and double master’s in management and English. Her experience of over 25 years spans KG to PG, including corporate training for communication and soft skills as well as institutional sales and consultancy. She is a Cambridge certified English Language Examiner. Starting her career with Bhavan’s College, Andheri, she has been associated with several engineering and business schools in Mumbai including SPCE, SPIT, Fr. Agnel, DBIT, JBIMS, KJ Somaiya, SIES and Chetana’s. 

Deepa Namagiri


Ms. Deepa Namagiri coordinates the entrepreneurship courses offered by DSSE. She completed her MBA in Marketing and Human Recourses from Andhra University, India. In the past, she has worked in ICICI Bank, India, Clark Atlanta University, USA and Texas Higher Education Board, USA. She joined IIT Bombay in 2013 and worked in the ‘Train 10,000 Teachers (T10KT)’ and NVLI programs before joining DSSE in 2021.

Shakti Prasad Tripathy


Shakti Tripathy handles system administration and interfacing with the student bodies (E-Cell, Tinkering Lab, STAB). He also coordinates partner events such as E-Summit and TechConnect. He has a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and master’s from The Energy and Resources Institute School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi (2010). He worked at Accenture and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for a few years before joining DSSE in 2014. He has been associated with entrepreneurship since his college days and enjoys teaching and writing in his free time. 

Shweta Mane

Shweta Mane handles accounts at DSSE, including purchases, students’ micro-grants, expense monitoring and vendor management, as well as logistics support for various events organized by the School. She has a bachelor degree in arts and diploma in computer management. She has been working in IIT Bombay since 1992, in different labs of Mechanical Engineering department, gaining experience in the procedures and accounting norms of the Institute.

Sukanya Dikshit

Sukanya has been very active in the start-up ecosystem for the last 5 years. She has been a serial entrepreneur and has been in the founding team of several start-ups earlier. She decided to switch sides of the table and give back to the start-up ecosystem in India by working with Technology business incubators. Before joining DSSE, she was with Start-up Incubation & Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur as a Portfolio Manager during February-September 2021 period. Prior to this, she had a stint as an entrepreneur working on bioplastics, Phabio Enterprises Private Limited which was an award-winning start-up leading to a technology patent. She has a master’s in biotechnology from IIT Roorkee & worked on a Cancer Biology research project at IIT-Bombay for a couple of years from 2017-19.


Several senior professionals from industry, many of them alumni of IIT Bombay, are associated with DSSE as mentors for aspiring entrepreneurs.
