Celebrations of 7th International Day of Yoga at IIT Bombay
The International Day of Yoga is celebrated worldwide on June 21 every year to raise awareness about the importance and impact of yoga on the health of people. The term 'yoga' is derived from Sanskrit word “Yuja” which means to unite, representing the unification of body and consciousness. At IIT Bombay too, this day has always been celebrated with grandeur and glory. Since everything is being organised online in view of the pandemic, the Yogastha Club has too shifted the festivities online.
The countdown to IDY started 100 days back. Many events like workshops, scientific talks, yogathon practice sessions, quizzes, online yoga challenges and competitions are being organised. The main IDY event would be graced by Dr H.R. Nagendra. Chancellor, S-VYASA and Dr Hansaji Yogendra, Director, the Yoga Institute. Major events include the Common Yoga Protocol in the morning and the 108 Surya Namaskar Challenge in the evening. This will be followed by numerous activities, namely Yogathon cool down session, workshop and e-conference in the succeeding days.
IDY witnesses huge participation from students, faculty, staff and all IIT Bombay campus residents. The entire Yogastha Team is excited for this and the IIT Bombay community is enthusiastic to participate and is looking forward to celebrating and commemorating this event with lots of fanfare, euphoria and mirth.
