Course content

Review of basic numerical methods like root finding, numerical integration, solving systems of equations, multiple linear regression etc. with special emphasis on computer implementation and applications in material processing. Initial and boundary value problems, partial differential equations. Introduction to finite difference (FDM) and finite element (FEM) methods. Applications in materials processing : heat transfer and solidification; metal forming processes : analysis of sheet necking, formability tests, forming limit diagrams (FLD) etc..
