Counseling helped me overcome crisis situation

I was in a very bad relationship. The other individual had so much expectations and there was only give and no take. I had taken care of everything about her and other hand I wasn't cared. Whenever had shortcomings I was mentally abused that I wasn't good at anything except studies. I was told I lacked basic understanding of how to be in a relationship even though I tried my best whenever she complained and tried to change myself constantly. We broke up and soon I realised whatever happened was for good.

Take the first step in faith

Student wellness centre helped me a lot in order to manage my schedule and refrain from over thinking. Initially under the burden of a very hectic academic schedule and lack of vision of my future plans; I used to be very anxious; Ms. Anjali, one of the counsellors hold my back and helped me to emerge from the situations. I found counsellor over here very helpful and supportive. As a famous quote reads, “Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step – Martin Luther King Jr.”.

Persistence and Counsellor support Helps

I am an undergraduate student in IITB, I am a homosexual man and I was aware of my sexual identity since my school days. Still, my life had been going good, until I began to develop intense romantic feelings for one of my hostel mate, who also used to be my good friend. I confronted him about my sexual identity and my feelings for him which eventually led to turmoil in our friendly relationship and this caused me to suffer through frequent phases of anxiety and depression. This was severely affecting my academics and my social life.

My experience with Counselling

I am a final year undergraduate at IITB. I felt the need for counselling when I was in my 3rd year. I had one of the most demanding PORs a 3rdie could have, along with a loaded semester, also there were a few personal experiences which had taken a toll on me. So I decided to take a counselling session. I had initially met Ms Amita Tagare during my freshie year, so was convinced that it could be helpful and that I could use some professional advice, which I did need.

The invaluable resource of IITB

After IITB which one can make good use of. Spending 18 years of my life with my family, I came to IITB. Within a few days I started feeling depressed, lonely and started experiencing existential crisis and inferiority complex. My mind was full of negative thoughts and I became a master of procrastination. One day I came to know about SWC and although I was hesitant but I thought of giving it a try. I would say, giving it a try was the best decision I ever made.

Walking to SWC, The Best Decision I have made in my undergraduate years.

Hello Reader, I am writing this to share my experience with the student welfare centre and counselling services at IIT Bombay. I am Athul, 3rd Year Undergraduate of Aerospace Engineering Department. In my 5th semester, I took a PoR which is very rare for a 3rd year student. I started feeling hyper-loaded one week into it. I found myself in a very tight schedule. I even messed up one of my quizzes which added fuel to the fire in my mind. I was afraid if I mess up my endsems too. I couldn’t sleep for a few days because of this. Then I thought of walking into the student welfare centre.

Our mind feeling unwell is an equally important issue

"When our body is feeling unwell then we don't hesitate to take help of an expert to help our body get well. Why don't we do so for our mind? Our mind feeling unwell is an equally important issue, in fact even more because living with an unsound mind can be more torturous than living in an unwell body. The experts which help us take care of an unwell mind are counsellors. There is much taboo concerning counselling, but it is nothing but taking expert help when we are unable to solve our problem ourselves.

Learning to survive IIT..

Getting a chance to build up my career at IIT in the prosperous city of Mumbai was my dream all along and when I met it, I was on the top of the world. I left my near and dear ones 2000 km behind with hopes to make new friends as I moved to Mumbai. But my ecstasy did not last long amidst the extreme professionalism and daily rat race. Horrendous pressure of deadlines and worst quality food were seriously affecting my health. To add on to that, repeated strikes from my batch mates out of selfishness and jealousy literally broke my mental strength.
