"When our body is feeling unwell then we don't hesitate to take help of an expert to help our body get well. Why don't we do so for our mind? Our mind feeling unwell is an equally important issue, in fact even more because living with an unsound mind can be more torturous than living in an unwell body. The experts which help us take care of an unwell mind are counsellors. There is much taboo concerning counselling, but it is nothing but taking expert help when we are unable to solve our problem ourselves.

Learning to survive IIT...

Getting a chance to build up my career at IIT in the prosperous city of Mumbai was my dream all along and when I met it, I was on the top of the world. I left my near and dear ones 2000 km behind with hopes to make new friends as I moved to Mumbai. But my ecstasy did not last long amidst the extreme professionalism and daily rat race. Horrendous pressure of deadlines and worst quality food were seriously affecting my health. To add on to that, repeated strikes from my batch mates out of selfishnessand jealousy literally broke my mental strength.

Life-changing Experience

When I came for the first meeting with my counsellor Miss Anjali...I had a tons of questions inside me...I was feeling weird too that I am mentally unstable that I have to meet her.." a counsellor"...though it was my decision only...but gradually all my doubts, questions were patiently answered. My anger and aggression. which was my primary concern has been significantly reduced. Moreover, I have inculcated many good habits like reading books. writing poems etc. Every week she used to give me good books to read and later we discuss on it.

Right Intervention at the Right Time

I am a new Ph.D. student in I.I.T. Bombay and in the beginning of semester due to so much pressure I was totally lost and was not able to understand any thing that was happening to me. I was in great trouble personally. Then I decided to talk to student wellness center in campus  and the counselor treated me so well and really CAUGHT THE POINT that what is missing in my efforts. She gave me the right  advise  and with in  a week I was in my best  mental shape and now I am going on with my work.

I started Healing the moment I felt Heard

I am a PhD student . I had just finished the first semester in IIT and I had been feeling too low and depressed because I had never been through such an amount of stress. I developed severe anxiety. Initially it was low but then it  I became suicidal and only thing which was coming to my mind was run away. I was clueless and couldn't identify what the problem was where I was stuck. Friends tried to help but they couldn't understand and I found there was no solution.

Acceptance is more Important than Perfection

 

Towards the end of my PhD journey, when I ran out of energy, I was left with probably the last leg of the PhD- a few experiments and then thewriting up. The experiments were done in a month, but the paper writing seemed like never ending. It started to stress me out and I became veryanxious as to when it will finish.

After clearing jee i entered iit bombay with big dreams...i wanted to be successful, famous rich. Classes started..it was tough for me to focus and understand what was going on in class.To compensate for it i tried to study all the time i was in my room.I didn’t take part in any  cultural activitiy to save more time for studies but it didn’t work out.Meanwhile i started to like a girl in my batch. But never had the courage to talk to her. I was thinking almost all the time about her.Coming from an orthodox family i felt guilty because of this.
