The Office of the Dean (IPS), IIT Bombay, organized an Awareness Workshop on "Protecting Green Assets During Urban Development" on 22nd June 2026. Conducted in two sessions for IIT Bombay staff (engineers) and contractors engaged in campus infrastructure works, the one-of-its-kind workshop aimed to promote environmentally responsible development practices while safeguarding the campus's rich biodiversity and natural habitats.
The workshop featured addresses by Prof. Perumal Vedagiri, Dean (IPS); Prof. Prakash Nanthagopalan, Associate Dean (EHS); Prof. Satyanarayana Murty Dasaka, Convener, Awareness Committee, and Dr. Nayan Dabholkar, Chief Advisor, Facility Management. The awareness sessions were conducted by Prof. Rajesh Patkar, PiC, Biodiversity Lab and Convener, Campus Biodiversity Committee, along with Ms. Ketaki Ghate and Ms. Manasi Karandikar of Oikos for Ecological Services.
The sessions highlighted the ecological significance of IIT Bombay's green spaces, challenges associated with infrastructure development and practical measures to protect trees, habitats and biodiversity-rich areas. Interactive discussions with participants helped identify on-ground challenges and their solutions, fostering greater awareness and collective responsibility towards sustainable campus development.
