Aman Day care

The Aman Day Care Centre (ADCC), an initiative by IIT Bombay since 2012, cares for the children of construction workers on the IIT Bombay campus. Triggered by a tragic incident involving Aman Ahirwar, students and faculty collaborated with the Institute administration to establish the center. It is currently managed by the NGO EAGL Livelihood Foundation, recognized as one of the country's top eight social enterprises, founded by Dr. Nilratan Shende, an IITB PhD alum. The children at ADCC get divided into three sections at per their age- Creche (1 to 3 years), Balwadi (3 to 8 years) and Primary (8 years onwards).  Various range of activities are undertaken by the teachers depending on the age group. Some of the activities include motor skill development, drawing, storytelling, and academic support. Primary section children are helped with their homework and taught mathematical skills in innovative ways with help of volunteers from the campus community. Computer classes are run by IITB students for children who have earlier spent time at ADCC and now are studying in secondary schools or colleges. The center, operational from 9 am to 5 pm, has a dedicated staff providing health check-ups, nutritional support, and meals. Currently serving around 60 children, ADCC actively participates in cultural events and engages in Republic Day functions at IIT Bombay.
