FedEx Express and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have officially launched the FedEx Centre for Advanced Logistics and Focused Innovation (FedEx ALFA), which was first announced in 2023. This Centre is dedicated to conducting research in logistics, artificial intelligence, and sustainability and is housed within the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at IIT Bombay.
In addition, FedEx has opened the FedEx Lounge in the Project Evergreen complex at IIT Bombay, a designated space for students to relax, collaborate and connect.
The collaboration has already supported over 160 students through mentorship and microgrants, and more than 20 postgraduate fellowships have been awarded to MTech and PhD scholars. The initiative has also launched over eight research projects focused on areas such as air cargo, cold-chain logistics and digital twins, along with advanced studies on cognitive load and mental wellness in the logistics field.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to establish a Centre of Excellence across IIT Bombay and IIT Madras, which will support advanced logistics R&D, academic programmes and entrepreneurship in India.
IIT Bombay extends its gratitude to Raj Subramaniam (CEO, FedEx), Ms. Kami Viswanathan (President – MEISA, FedEx) and Nitin Navneet Tatiwala (Vice President – Marketing AMEA, FedEx) for their inspiring vision and continued support.
