On 16th March 2026, IIT Bombay marked a significant milestone with the ground-breaking ceremony of its upcoming residential building, Type II-B Staff Quarters, at lakeside, on the campus.

The event was graced by the august presence of Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director; Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation); Prof. Ravi Gudi, Deputy Director (Finance, Infrastructure and Administration); along with Deans, Associate Deans, the Dean IPS project team, staff members and other distinguished guests. The ceremony commenced by a ceremonial address and a symbolic ground-breaking.

Prof. Vedagiri Perumal, Dean (IPS), delivered the welcome address and highlighted the salient features of this residential building. He mentioned that the building will comprise a ground floor plus 21 floors with 3 level covered podium parking, with a total built-up area of approximately 1.5 lakh sq. ft. It will accommodate 76 two-bedroom, hall and kitchen (2BHK) flats along with essential supporting facilities.

Prof. Atrey and Prof. Gudi emphasized the importance of the project in strengthening the campus infrastructure. Prof. Kedare appreciated the efforts of the Dean IPS team and reiterated the Institute’s continued commitment to enhancing residential facilities for staff members.

Envisaged by the Dean IPS project team, this project reflects IIT Bombay’s focus on providing modern and comfortable on-campus residential infrastructure for staff members.
