Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Hon'ble Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India visited IIT Bombay on 28th August, 2025. He was welcomed by Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation).
Prof. Makarand Kulkarni, Professor-in-Charge of the Centre for Defence Technology Innovations and Strategies (CDTIS) briefed Dr. Majumdar on this new initiative. He highlighted its research verticals, aligned with the deep-tech needs of the armed forces; and its educational programs explicitly connecting these needs with defence manufacturing.
This was followed by a presentation on SemiX, the Centre for semiconductor technologies at IIT Bombay, by Prof. Swaroop Ganguly. Prof. Ganguly briefed the Minister on upcoming state-of-the-art semiconductor 'fab lab' infrastructure and the development of Semiconductor Ecosystem Talent (DevSET) national roadmap for semiconductor research and education, being coordinated by IIT Bombay along with academic and industry partners pan-India.
Dr. Majumdar appreciated the efforts being taken by IIT Bombay and wished the functionaries all the best.
