IC-ICPMS Facility Inaugurated At IIT Bombay

Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation) at IIT Bombay, inaugurated the Ion Chromatography – Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (IC-ICPMS) facility at Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF), IIT Bombay on 3rd October, 2025. The facility, worth Rs. 1.60 crore, was funded by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India.

IC-ICPMS is a powerful analytical technique used for speciation analysis—that is, the identification and quantification of different chemical forms of elements, especially metals and metalloids. Speciation analysis has become increasingly important for the food, environmental and pharmaceutical industries, where simply measuring the total concentration of an element is not sufficient. Identifying the specific species and their concentrations provides a more comprehensive understanding of the environmental or health-related impacts associated with a particular sample.
