Ocean Engineering - IIT Bombay is pleased to share that IIT Bombay and the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) signed a MoU on 12 August 2026, establishing a framework for closer collaboration in maritime research, technology development, education and capacity building.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Shrikrishna V. Kulkarni, Dean (Research and Development), IIT Bombay and Mr. Sushil Khopde, IPS, Additional Director General of Maritime Administration.

The signing ceremony was led by Mr. Ravi Kumar M, Deputy Director General of Maritime Administration (Tech.) along with Prof. Manasa Ranjan Behera, Prof. V K Srineash and Prof. Gowri Shankar Chinnathambi.

The MoU provides a broad platform for collaboration in areas including maritime engineering, ocean engineering, shipbuilding, ship repair and recycling, shipping technology, maritime administration, sustainability and decarbonisation.

The collaboration will facilitate joint research and development projects, technical and feasibility studies, student internships and dissertation projects, development of research infrastructure, training and capacity-building programmes, workshops and knowledge-sharing initiatives, as well as research-based technical and policy support for the maritime sector.

A key focus of the collaboration will be to leverage the research capabilities, technical expertise and institutional resources of IIT Bombay to address emerging technological and developmental needs of India’s maritime and shipping sector.
