IIT Bombay and Government of Maharashtra Sign MoU for Chief Minister Fellowship Program 2025-26

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Devendra Fadnavis presided over the MoU signing and exchange between the Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra and IIT Bombay on 21st July 2025 at Varsha Bungalow, the residence of the Chief Minister, Government of Maharashtra.

This MoU aims to provide a certification course for Fellows under the CM Fellowship Program, Maharashtra. The course is designed to equip the Chief Minister Fellows with the right tools and methodologies to understand, articulate and solve problems related to public welfare.

Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director, ART (Academics, Research and Translation), Prof. Usha Ananthakumar, Dean (Educational Outreach (EO)), Prof. Vinish Kathuria, Head, Ashank Desai Centre for Policy Studies (ADCPS), were present at the MoU signing ceremony. Prof. Parmeshwar Udmale from Centre for Technology for Rural Areas (C-TARA) is PI/ Course Coordinator of the CM Fellowship Program for the second batch through Dean Education and Outreach at IIT Bombay.

For this Fellowship program, 60 fellows are selected through a rigorous selection process, which includes a written exam and interview. The Fellowship starts on 28th July 2025 at IIT Bombay. The Fellows will attend in-person classes for 4 weeks at IIT Bombay with intermittent breaks and continuous online instructions during weekends throughout 12 months while based at 23 district collector and zilla parishad offices in Maharashtra. The Fellows will also undertake directed research under the guidance of IIT Bombay faculty. Faculty instructors from IIT Bombay are Prof. Anand B. Rao, Prof. Bakul Rao, Prof Satish B. Agnihori, Prof. Om Damani, Prof. Sarthak Gaurav, Prof. Aditi Chaubal, Prof. Pooja Purang and Prof. Parmeshwar Udmale. The course also offers guest lectures from experienced IAS officers and several other IIT Bombay faculty members.

After completing coursework and directed research under the mentorship of district administration and IIT Bombay faculty, Fellows will be awarded a ‘Postgraduate Certificate Program in Public Policy’.
