IIT Bombay celebrated the 77th Independence Day near the famous arch facing the Nandan Nilekani Main Building on August 15, 2023. The celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag by the Institute’s Director Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri at 9.30 a.m. Later he addressed the gathering.

Prof. Chaudhuri conveyed warmest greetings to the IIT Bombay community. The Institute is celebrating the ongoing 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)' that commemorates the 75 glorious years of a progressive independent India. Prof. Chaudhuri briefed the gathering about the recent achievements & milestones accomplished by the Institute and urged all the attendees to strive towards a glorious future.

All the Institute functionaries, faculty, students and a large number of employees attended the function. The entire programme was broadcast live on YouTube Channel. Students also participated in a cultural programme on the occasion.

The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign is also being followed by campusites, who have hoisted the National Flag of India in their homes. Students of NSS also distributed some tulsi saplings on the occasion. The Director and the functionaries planted a few saplings on campus too. The campus is beautifully decked in ‘tricolor lights’.
