IIT Bombay celebrates Swachhotsav 2025

IIT Bombay organized Swachhotsav 2025 on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 2:30 pm in the P.C. Saxena Auditorium. The event was graced by Prof. Ramesh Venkateswaran, Adjunct Faculty (Marketing), IIM Bangalore; Ex-Chairman (Board of Governors), IIT Palakkad; and IIT Bombay alumnus, as the Chief Guest.

The programme featured the presentation of the Institute Cleanliness Awards 2025, recognizing the efforts of academic departments, Section 8 companies, hostels, and non-academic units in maintaining a clean and sustainable campus. Winners of various competitions conducted under Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 for students of Campus School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and IIT Bombay were also felicitated.

As part of the Clean Campus Drive (Phase 3), the Institute evaluated all departments, Section 8 companies, hostels, non-academic units, and zonal areas of Junior Engineers (JEs) from September 17–24, 2025. Based on recommendations of the evaluation committees, the following were declared winners of the Institute Cleanliness Awards 2025:

  • Academic Units: 1st – Civil Engineering | 2nd – Economics | 3rd – Aerospace Engineering
  • Non-Academic Units: 1st – Hospitality Section | 2nd – Material Management Division | 3rd – IRCC
  • Section 8 Companies: 1st – SINE | 2nd – IITB-Monash Research Academy | 3rd – IITB Research Park Foundation
  • Hostels: 1st – Hostel 11 | 2nd – Hostel 16 | 3rd – Hostel 10
  • Zonal Areas of JEs: 1st – Zone 15 | 2nd – Zone 2 | 3rd – Zone 10

Winners of Swachhata Pakhwada competitions included IIT Campus School, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Powai, the best-performing hostel for maintaining and promoting cleanliness and key Institute offices — IPS, PRO, Estate Office, MMD, and Public Health Office — for their exemplary support.

Swachhotsav 2025 is part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign, led by the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. This year’s theme, “Swachhotsav”, emphasizes the fusion of festive spirit with the responsibility of cleanliness.

Through this initiative, IIT Bombay reaffirms its commitment to a clean, green and happy campus, encouraging every member of its community to contribute to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
