IIT Bombay celebrated the 34th Van Mahotsav on Saturday, July 26 at the parking lot opposite to Research Park in IIT Bombay. On the occasion, Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Shireesh Kedare spoke on the importance of preserving trees and encouraged the campus community to develop an interest in building a greener and sustainable environment.

IIT Bombay Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation) Prof. Milind Atrey and Mrs. Mukta Atrey stressed on the need to preserve the 'green lungs' within the maximum city.

Dean (Strategy) Prof. K.P. Kaliappan, Dean (Alumni & Corporate Relations) Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean (Infrastructure, Planning and Support (IPS)) Prof. Vedagiri Perumal, Associate Deans (IPS) Prof. Prakash Nanthagopalan and Prof. Venkata Santosh Kumar Delhi, faculty members, staff members, students of IIT Bombay along with teachers and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Campus School planted tree saplings during the event at the venue. 

During Van Mahotsav 2025, IIT Bombay has planted 400 tree saplings, making the total count of tree plantation through Van Mahotsav at IIT Bombay over the years to be more than 50,000. Different varieties of plant seeds were also distributed to all present.

Cultural performances by the students of Campus School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, highlighting the importance of trees in our lives, were much appreciated by the gathering. The event was organized by the Horticulture section of the Estate Office, IIT Bombay, which takes due care of the saplings planted at Van Mahotsav throughout the year.

In the wake of the campus’s expansion, such an initiative is important for all who treasure the campus’s greenery. In order to ensure sustainable development throughout, IIT Bombay adopts green practices that promote an environmentally friendly ambiance on campus and develop a sense of responsibility among the residents towards environmental conservation.
