IIT Bombay organized the second edition of the National Geospatial Awards 2025 (Edition 02) and the Open Source GIS Day celebrations on 17 July 2025 at Prof. B. Nag Auditorium (VMCC), and bestowed honour on the winners/ winning organization of the National Geospatial Awards 2025 (Edition 02). Dr. A. S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Physical Research Management Committee, Member, Space Commission, Government of India & former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and former Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented the awards. The National Geospatial Awards 2025 (Edition 02) is an initiative of the FOSSEE GIS project, IIT Bombay, organized under the aegis of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. The key objective of the 'National Geospatial Awards 2025' is to honor the enablers of Geospatial Technology in India, cutting across professions (Institutions, Faculty, Scientists, Industry professionals, Individuals, etc), along with celebrating the spirit of Open Source Geospatial/GIS tools in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP2020), which has empowered stakeholders and policymakers to adopt the latest Open Source GIS technologies that align with the 'National Geospatial Policy 2022 (NGP2022)', and the 'Indian Space Policy 2023 (ISP2023)'. This year, around 100 national awards were given to eminent academicians, scientists, bureaucrats, and industry experts covering 10+ categories (National Geospatial Enabler, Practitioner, Emerging/Faculty & Professional Fellow, Best Geospatial Platform, Excellence in outreach, etc). Out of the recipients, 10 were IAS officers, 01 from the Armed Forces, 17 eminent scientists from ISRO organizations (including 06 National Award for Women of Excellence in Geospatial Science and Technology winners), 05 Vice Chancellors, and 50+ renowned faculty and administrators from prestigious Institutions across India. Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, Principal Investigator, FOSSEE & Convenor, delivered the inaugural address. Prof. Pennan Chinnasamy, Co-Principal Investigator, FOSSEE project & Co-convenor, spoke about the Open Source GIS Day celebrations; Mohamed Kasim Khan M, National Coordinator - FOSSEE GIS (NMEICT), IIT Bombay, delivered the welcome address and gave an overview about the National Geospatial Awards 2025 (Edition 02), and coordinated the overall event, along with Mrs. Madhulika Goyal, Senior Project Manager, FOSSEE project, IIT Bombay.
