Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Holds its 64th Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF)
- A total of 3333 degrees were awarded to 3042 students
– IIT Bombay awarded its highest-ever number of 620 PhD degrees across any IIT during the academic year 2025–26
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) held its 64th Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF) at its campus on two consecutive days viz. August 22nd and 23rd, 2026.
The Departmental Degree Award Function were organised in the respective academic units of the degree recipients. Each function was presided over by a Chief Guest and attended by the Head of the academic unit, faculty members, graduating students and their families.
During the academic year 2025–26:
IIT Bombay awarded a total of 3,763 degrees to 3,442 students, comprising 791 female and 2,651 male students. These figures include the degrees awarded during both the Spring and Autumn Session of the 64th Convocation held in February 2026.
At the 64th Convocation and the Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF) in its autumn session:
A total of 3333 degrees were awarded to 3042 students during the departmental function, including 1663 undergraduate degree, 1319 postgraduate degrees and 351 PhD degrees..
The undergraduate degrees include 1010 B.Tech along with 466 Dual Degree (BTech+MTech) and 34 Interdisciplinary Dual Degrees (BTech/ BS+MTech/ MBA), 82 four-year BS, along with 10 Dual Degree (BS+MSc), 23 BDes, along with 16 Dual Degree (BDes+MDes), and 22 three-year BS.
The postgraduate degrees include 684 MTech, 40 MS by Research, five MDes by Research, four Dual Degree (MSc+MS by Research), 17 M.Tech Degrees from Dual Degree (M.Tech+PhD), nine MSc Degrees from Dual Degree (Msc.+PhD), eight MA by Research, 64 MDes, eight MA, eight MDP, 312 two-year MSc, 126 MBA, 13 MPP, 21 PGD degrees.
The PhD degrees include: 286 PhD degrees, 17 PhD Degrees from Dual Degrees (MTech+PhD), nine PhD Degrees from Dual Degrees (MSc+PhD), 39 joint PhD degrees awarded in collaboration with Monash University

Medal Distribution Ceremony
The Medal Distribution Ceremony, held on August 22, 2026, as part of the 64th Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF), commenced with the felicitation of Professor Emeritus and former Deputy Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Juzer Vasi and Chairperson, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Mr. Shashi Shekhar Vempati. They were conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2026 in the fields of Science and Engineering and Literature and Education, respectively.
Prof. Umesh Waghmare, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
The President of India Medal was bestowed upon Samar Perwez, a BTech student from the Department of Electrical Engineering, while the Institute Gold Medal was awarded to Vighnesh J. R., a Dual Degree student from the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
The Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal was conferred upon Nimma Rambabu, a PhD student from the Department of Civil Engineering. The Sharad Maloo Gold Medal was awarded to Nimay Upen Shah, a BTech student from the Department of Electrical Engineering, while the G. H. Raisoni Excellence Gold Medal was conferred upon Niveditha V. Nair, a BTech student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Additionally, the Naik and Rastogi Excellence in PhD Research Awards 2024–2026 were presented to 50 students, while 44 students received Institute Silver Medals in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
