IIT Bombay Racing Clinches EV and Driverless Titles at Formula Student Portugal 2026

IIT Bombay Racing secured 1st place overall in the Electric Vehicle category at Formula Student Portugal 2026, while IIT Bombay Racing Driverless secured 1st place overall in the Driverless Cup, delivering a landmark performance that established the teams among the world's leading Formula Student competitors. IIT Bombay Racing Driverless also became the first Indian Formula Student team to participate in the Driverless Formula Student category at an international competition.

IIT Bombay Racing also successfully completed the 22 km Endurance event, Formula Student's most demanding dynamic discipline. The Endurance event evaluates vehicle reliability, efficiency, and performance under sustained race conditions, making it one of the toughest challenges in Formula Student.

Key Highlights at Formula Student Portugal 2026:

IIT Bombay Racing:
• Overall Standings (Electric Vehicle): 1st Place 
• Engineering Design Presentation: 1st Place
• Efficiency: 1st Place
• Endurance: 2nd Place
• Cost and Manufacturing: 2nd Place
• Business Plan Presentation: 4th Place

IIT Bombay Racing Driverless:
• Overall Standings (Driverless Cup): 1st Place
• Engineering Design Presentation: 1st Place

In addition to its success in Portugal, IIT Bombay Racing also competed at Formula Student Switzerland 2026, securing 13th place overall and continuing its international campaign while showcasing the team's engineering capabilities across multiple Formula Student competitions. With a continued focus on innovation and performance engineering, IIT Bombay Racing and IIT Bombay Racing Driverless remain committed to shaping the future of autonomous mobility in India.

This achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of IIT Bombay, NRB Bearings, and the team's other sponsors, along with the continuous encouragement and support of the Institute leadership, including Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay; Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla, former Dean (Student Affairs); Prof. Shrikrishna V.
