IIT Bombay has been ranked 3rd in the Overall category, 3rd in Engineering, 14th in  Management, 4th in Research and  2nd in the ‘Innovation’ category. The result of the 10th edition of NIRF rankings 2025 was announced by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Government of India, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, on 4th September 2025.

The Institute obtained a score of 81.62, 83.65, 65.82, and 77.80  in the Overall, Engineering, Management, and Research category, respectively of the NIRF 2025. The parameters used for NIRF rankings include Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity and Peer Perception.

Commenting on the Institute’s performance, Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare said, “We are happy to maintain our strong performance in the NIRF Rankings. They are an important nationwide process of assessment and benchmarking. At the same time, it reminds us that all of us must continue to work collectively to strengthen India’s education system. The competition among institutions is healthy, as it encourages us to raise our standards and contribute more effectively to the nation’s growth”.

Launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Education (then Ministry of Human Resource Development), the NIRF has emerged as a benchmark for assessing the quality of higher educational institutions in India.
