On 9th March 2026, the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship at IIT Bombay unveiled a landmark six-storey, 115,000-square-foot facility dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship. Purpose-built from the ground up, the space represents a rare initiative—possibly the first-of-its-kind in India and among a very few globally.
Inside these walls are:
* state-of-the-art makerspaces where ideas become prototypes
* Tinkering labs for hands-on experimentation
* Design studios for translating vision into reality
* Micro factories for scaling concepts
* Co-working spaces where students, faculty, and entrepreneurs collaborate
* Business planning centres to shape ventures &
* Faculty offices embedded within it all - creating a living ecosystem of mentorship and creation
More than just a building, the facility serves as an integrated infrastructure that bridges the gap between academic invention and market-ready innovation. It reflects India's commitment to nurturing the next generation of deep-tech founders and the structural investment required to make it happen.
The facility was inaugurated by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay and Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research and Translation) and brought to life through the vision and generosity of benefactors Bharat Desai and Neerja Sethi.
This milestone reflects the continued commitment of IIT Bombay to fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and real-world problem solving. The Institute looks forward to many ideas, startups and collaborations emerging from this new space and shaping the future of entrepreneurship.
