The Institue is organising a Dhrupad Rudraveena Concert on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in honour of the late Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar for his enormous contributions to music education at IIT Bombay.

About Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar (1932-2013):
Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar was a Distinguished Guest Professor at the Institute during 2000-2004. He resided and taught classical music of the Dhrupad genre at the erstwhile Director's bungalow, which was then converted to Dhrupad Sansar (now the Padmavihar Guest House).
About the Artists:
Ustad Mohi Bahauddin Dagar, an exponent of Rudraveena, has had his initial training on the sitar under the tutelage of his mother Smt. Pramila Mohiuddin Dagar. At age 16, he began training under his father, the Rudraveena maestro Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, and also learnt vocals from his uncle, Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, a Dhrupad vocalist. He now continues to get able guidance under Pandit Pushpraj Koshti. He is a top-grade A.I.R artist and also the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He presently resides at Dhrupad, a residential training space where he teaches students voice, veena and other instruments in the Guru Shishya Parampara.
Pt. Aditya Dip, an accomplished Pakhawaj player from Varanasi, received his initial training in Tabla under the Gurus Dr. Jai Prakash Singh & Pt. Kishor Mishra at the age of 12. He completed his Sangeet Prabhakar in Tabla and Pakhawaj from PSS, Allahabad. He received rigorous training under the able guidance of the Pakhawaj maestro, the Late Pt. Shrikant Mishra. Pt. Dip is trained in the advanced techniques of Tabla from the eminent masters of the Banaras Hindu University, Faculty of Performing Arts Varanasi and has a Master's degree in music from the BHU. He is equally proficient in accompaniment and in solo performances, and has performed in several Taal-Vadya–Kacheris.
