About the speaker:

Lord Professor Bhikhu Parekh is an author of nearly a dozen acclaimed books in political philosophy. His work has been translated into thirteen languages. He is a recipient of B.B.C.'s Special Lifetime Achievement award, Sir Isaiah Berlin Prize for lifetime contribution to political philosophy, Padma Bhushan and 15 honorary doctorates from British Universities.

Abstract:

In this lecture, Lord Professor Bhikhu Parekh asks why Gandhi is called the Father of the Nation, whether the practice is unique to India, what it implies, how valid it is and what benefits and dangers it brings.
