The PwD Cell, IIT Bombay, commemorated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) 2025 on 3rd December at the IDC Auditorium, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible campus environment. The event brought together students, staff, faculty and invited guests in a collective celebration of diversity, empowerment and equal opportunity.
The program commenced with an inspiring welcome address by the Guest of Honour Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay, who emphasized the Institute’s unwavering dedication to strengthening support systems for persons with disabilities. This was followed by a thought-provoking keynote address by Dr Ravi Prakash Singh, Officer Incharge NIEPID Regional Centre, Navi Mumbai, who spoke extensively on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act and highlighted the need for sustained efforts toward accessibility and awareness.
A deeply moving segment of the event featured three IIT Bombay staff members, who shared personal experiences of living and working with disabilities. Their narratives underscored the importance of empathy, sensitivity and community support within institutional spaces.
The celebration was enriched by a special cultural performance by children from NIEPID, whose vibrant presentation brought warmth and joy to the audience. The Institute was also honoured to host 50 students from NIEPID and the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf & Dumb, whose enthusiastic participation made the occasion especially meaningful.
The event concluded with an engaging panel discussion on building an inclusive and accessible campus. Through this observance of IDPD 2025, IIT Bombay reiterates its continued commitment to promoting inclusivity and creating an environment where every individual can thrive with dignity and equal opportunity.
