IIT Bombay Celebrates National Education Day 2024

IIT Bombay celebrated the National Education Day on November 11, 2024, honoring the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of Independent India. Prof. Vasudha Kamat, former Vice-Chancellor of SNDT Women's University, Mumbai, graced the event with her presence as the Chief Guest.

On this occasion, the Research Publication Awards 2023 and Impactful Research Awards were awarded to select faculty.

The Research Publication Awards 2023 were awarded to Prof. Samir Maji, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering; Prof. Gopal Patil, Department of Civil Engineering; Prof. Supratik Chakraborty and Prof. S. Akshay, Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Prof. Aswani Yella, Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science and Prof. Harish Phuleria, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering.

The Impactful Research Awards were awarded to Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Prof. Sahana Murthy and Prof. Sridhar Iyer, Centre of Education Technology.

Each research award carries a citation, a cash award of rupees 5000 and a internal research grant of 5 Lakh rupees. This award ceremony is conducted every year on the occasion of National Education Day to recognise the achievements of the faculty members.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay underscored the importance of educational process and its changing relevance from schools to colleges to professional life.

Prof. Vasudha Kamat shared her rich experience of interactive activity based teaching with focus on learner's needs and interests. She also talked about spirit of NEP and how can it be useful in transforming the education system. She also talked about important role of Open education platform and how can we enrich it. She raised important issues about how information centric teaching process can be changed to activity-based enriched learning experience for students.

Prof. Pratibha Sharma, Associate Dean (Academic Programmes) introduced the Institute Academic Prizes and invited the students to receive the certificates.
